Boats line up for the start of a Thursday evening race
Great sailing can be enjoyed on this stretch of the River Avon between Bristol and Bath, which is the widest and straightest on the whole river – and the clearest of bank vegetation.
Our sailing area is nearly a mile long - extending upriver from the clubhouse, around a corner to the Bristol to Bath Cycleway bridge. Downriver, the area is limited by the weir outside the famous Jolly Sailor public house.
We have a pleasant, modern clubhouse with great facilities, a large dinghy park and wonderful views across the river towards Kelston and the hills beyond.
Dinghy races are held every Sunday between March and November and on Thursday evenings during the summer months.
Cruising sailors are encouraged to take to the water even during the races. A RYA accredited training course is run every spring for members — beginners and juniors.
The river provides a challenging racing course for either novices or experienced sailors, young and old alike. Classes sailed include the British Moth, Comet, Graduate, Laser, Lightning, Mirror and Topper.
Members often take their boats to race or cruise on other waters around the South west and beyond, and the annual club excursion to Studland Bay, Dorset, for a sea sailing weekend is always well supported.
Bristol Avon SC isn't just all about sailing and boats though - it has a great social side too, with events organised throughout the year to provide a true family feel.
Read on and then come and see us to find out even more about this great sport and family activity.
Regatta 2009
Turn out to sail a race or a series, lend a hand with the running of this important event or just roll up to support your club.
Please look at the duties roster circulated electronically recently or posted in the clubhouse, and sign up for a session covering one of the many jobs that need manning during the weekend.
If you can give even only one hour then it will be greatly appreciated by the organising team.
Come on down and get involved in the club's biggest event of the year.

STUDLAND 2009

Studland 2009.
Another mass migration of BASC members to the golden beach of Studland Bay in Dorset took place at the end of June – when the weather treated us well, albeit with wind that was mainly on the light side.
A good time was had by all, it seemed, and piccies are now being uploaded by sundry members into a photo album on this site. A video will appear soon. Enjoy.
